FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Abbotsford, BC, September 10, 2018: Heritage Abbotsford Society has received funding from the Canada Post Community Foundation towards a new heritage-themed storytime series for children ages 2-5. The funds will be used to facilitate Time Adventurer’s Club, a monthly offering of fun, hands-on storytime at the Clearbrook Library throughout the fall.
The Society took aim at the youngest crowd, who may otherwise not be exposed to this type of hands-on experience, and created a series of storytimes just for them. Christina Reid, who will lead the program, is Heritage Abbotsford Society’s Executive Director. She will be bringing historic artifacts from the museum’s educational collection to the Clearbrook library. Along with games, songs and books, these artifacts will introduce the children to historic concepts, new vocabulary, and literacy. “Time and time again, studies have shown that literacy and exposure to a broader vocabulary aids in brain development at this young age. This is a fantastic way to build self-confidence, social intelligence, and, quite simply have fun!” says Reid.
Heritage Abbotsford Society is the not for profit organization which operates Trethewey House Heritage Site on a fee for service with the City of Abbotsford. Canada Post is proud to help organizations and projects, like the Heritage Abbotsford’s Time Adventurer’s Club, that make a difference in the lives of Canadian children and youth. Through the generosity of their customers, the Canada Post Community Foundation is able to fund important programs in communities across the country every year. “We are absolutely thrilled to have received this financial support from the Foundation” says Reid. “This will really help us take the program to the next level.”
